Let's face it: self-discipline is hard. At least until it becomes a habit. And what if we have no interest in changing our habits?...
We're talking about eating here. We live in a comforts-and-pleasures-driven society in which a premium is placed on individualism and satisfying self. That, coupled with our constant clamor for low costs on everything—regardless of what it is—has contributed to a market environment in which the natural benefits of food are subordinated to the potential profit margins of its production and sale. Consumer preferences for certain foods continue to spur genetic modifications to animals and plants alike, in order to produce in greater quantity the specific things about them that people crave. While that is no doubt good for business, it may not be good for our bodies. But who cares? Who wants to spend time eating well when we can all eat so... well!
We've all read the reports. We've all seen the news. Improving health through eating better foods is on the menu for many of us. But some of us still might not have the drive to make changes to our diets, even when we know that we should. High-fat, high-cholesterol, high-sodium, high-sugar, low-nutrition foods are not going anywhere anytime soon, except maybe down the chute and into our expanding bellies. And while we at Cove Mountain Health certainly encourage eating healthful foods, if we're not going to stop eating poorly, we ought to at least give our bodies a chance to gain the maximum benefit from what we do eat. Natural digestive enzymes supplements can help by contributing to proper nutrient absorption, where it otherwise can be found lacking.
One of the great challenges our bodies face today is nutrient absorption. In spite of all the advances in food production technology and all the knowledge we’ve gained about food in the last century, our bodies seem to be getting slighted. We get lots of fat and salt and sugar, but natural vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants are often found lacking. And so we pop multivitamins and we "stuff" our over-processed foods with pseudo-nutrition, in an attempt to get into our bodies what they need most, since we're continually stuffing our bodies with the things they need least. And this is where absorption comes in.
The saying goes that Americans have the richest urine in the world. No doubt. Since so much of what we eat is relatively devoid of nutritional value, we have to supplement our foods with multivitamins. But very often the cooking and processing of those foods destroys the important, naturally-occurring enzymes in them. But what’s the big deal? Why do we care about enzymes? Well, it is enzymes that ensure that the nutrients in food are properly borken down and—most importantly—absorbed into the body. Now, the body does produce enzymes for this purpose. In fact, digestive enzymes are so important to maintaining good health that body produces them in the mouth, the stomach, the pancreas, and the intestines. But it has to work overtime when we don’t provide natural enzymes in the foods we eat. And when your body is working to produce needed enzymes, actual digestion of foods and absorption of their nutrients diminishes in efficiency. And many of the nutrients we could have absorbed just pass on through and... well... you know the rest. So what good is a multivitamin when the food with which you take it doesn't have the digestive enzymes that the body needs to efficiently absorb the nutrients in the vitamin? Definitely not as much as it could be.
One solution to the digestion/absorption problem is to eat raw foods in which naturally-occurring enzymes have not been destroyed by over-heating or over-processing. But again, we’re only discussing this because we currently lack either the desire or self-discipline to choose carrot sticks over potato chips, or broccoli over pepperoni pizza. So our solution for the time being needs to be natural, but one that allows us to gradually change our diets. Natural digestive enzymes supplements, such as reLivitate, fit the bill. reLiviate is 100% plant-based, and is derived through a process that fully protects and retains the digestive enzymes of the source plants. So when you add a couple capsules of reLiviate to your meals, you’re providing your body with the enzymes it needs, so that it can focus on extracting the nutrients from your food, rather than spending time and resources producing enzymes to do so.
So go ahead and eat that cheeseburger. Sure, it’s not the best thing in the world for you, but we’ll get there. In the meantime, you may as well enjoy it. Just don’t forget at the same time to give your body the digestive enzymes it needs. You can work on self-discipline… tomorrow. ;)
